I’m a relatively new member to the Club, and my brother and I had a great time fishing last Sunday and Monday! It was my first overnight, and the cabin and kitchen made the trip that much more enjoyable. We fished the Box Car run on Sunday afternoon and we caught five 10” – 13” rainbows, using a double nymph rig and thingamabob indicator. The 13” rainbow hit the top Stone Fly nymph (tan, #12), while the smaller ones went for the bottom Bird’s Nest nymph, #14 olive.
We fished the lake in float tubes during late afternoon and evening, but we didn’t have much success. I caught one small rainbow on a Bird’s Nest nymph and my brother lost his rigging on something sizable in the tunnel.
On Monday, I landed two 15” rainbows and one 14” rainbow toward the head of the small rapid below American Bar (empties into the stretch of slow moving water above the Gauging Station). All hit the top fly, Pat’s Rubber legs / Rubber Leg Centipede (#10, brown). I also landed a 14” rainbow at the campground water with the Pat’s Rubber legs. I use a Measure Net, which reduces handling of the fish; all were full of fight upon release. All in all, a great experience!
(Thank you Don for finding and returning my fly box! It carried some of my favorite fly fishing tools and gadgets).
