The Horseshoe Bar Preserve Fly Fishing Event
7 – 10 October 2021
Application to Participate
The Horseshoe Bar Preserve Veterans & First Responders Event was created in 2008 to help veterans who were injured while serving during post-Vietnam military conflicts. During this wilderness experience veterans will spend four days on the Middle Fork of the American River at a private preserve that covers five miles of pristine fly fishing water and tens of thousands of acres in California’s Gold Country.
Upon arrival on the morning of October 7 veterans will be met by a group of volunteers whose only goal is to provide the best wilderness fly fishing experience possible. Vets will be paired with an experienced fly fishing guide who will provide all the gear needed to begin a fabulous fly fishing adventure. Vets will reside in our campground nestled in the center of the preserve astride the Middle Fork of the American River near Foresthill, California. Vets will spend 4 days learning the art of fly-fishing while spending the nights in individual 4-man tents.
Evenings will consist of a gourmet meal followed by time around the campfire with veterans and their guides sharing the fishing tales of the day. The event will end Sunday Oct 10 after lunch at approximately 1400.
Veterans should bring suitable clothing for inclement weather, insect repellent and sunscreen, personal hygiene and medical needs.
